Named the quartet-in-residence at Indiana University's Jacob School of Music in March 2012, the Pacifica was the quartet-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2009 – 2012) – a position previously held by the Guarneri String Quartet – and received the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance.
President Obama wants an international agreement to cut fossil fuel emissions. Such a deal would require a two thirds majority vote in the Senate. Republicans currently hold 45 Senate seats and are opposed the agreement. The White House is working with other countries on a plan that would be "politically binding". U.S. negotiators would blend legally binding rules from a 1992 treaty and new voluntary promises, which would not require senate ratification.
