At least 70 people in six states and Mexico have fallen ill with measles since December. The outbreak has been traced to Disneyland in California where most of the cases reside. In 2000 measles was declared eradicated in the US because of vaccinations. Currently all states require certain vaccinations for schoolchildren, but in certain states such as California one can opt out if they sign a personal belief waiver. There are some who delay getting their children vaccinated because they believe now-discredited research linking the measles vaccine to autism.
