Senate Republicans hope to have a vote on their version of the American Health Care Act, which the House passed on May 4, as soon as next week before Congress breaks for recess. Democrat Senators are criticizing Republicans for legislating in a shroud of secrecy without holding public hearings and not making them privy to the negotiations. As Democrats did in 2009 for the Affordable Care Act, the 52 member Republican majority will invoke a special process known as reconciliation that only requires 51 votes to approve the health care overhaul.
