Carnegie Science Awards

Carnegie Science Center established the Carnegie Science Awards program in 1997 to recognize and promote outstanding science and technology achievements in western Pennsylvania. Now 16 years later, they have celebrated the accomplishments of more than 300 individuals and organizations. This year's theme is Science: Does the Media Get it Right? The theme celebrates the courage of the human spirit thriving through adversity to reach the summits of our ambitions. It highlights the role science plays in challenging assumptions and overcoming obstacles to reach the unreachable, to attain the unattainable and to realize what was once thought impossible.

Under pressure from House conservatives opposed to immigration reform, House Speaker John Boehner says he doesn't see any way of bringing an immigration bill to the floor if it doesn't have the support of a majority of Republicans. Boehner also calls the bill before the Senate weak on border security.
