Inspire Speakers Series
Join Phipps and Green Building Alliance (GBA) on the second Thursday of each month to hear from local and national sustainability experts as a participant in the Inspire Speakers Series. The special guest for the May 9 talk, entitled Defying Boundaries: Integrating Sustainability Practices, is David Orr (author, healthy building pioneer, environmental education expert and distinguished professor at Oberlin College). Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey is urging immediate action be taken against Philadelphia and other sanctuary cities for not cooperating with federal immigration authorities. Toomey named recent Philadelphia criminals allegedly entering the country illegally but the city refused to alert Immigration and Customs agents. The Senator wants to withhold federal community block grants from sanctuary cities, 39 million of went to Philadelphia in 2015. Philadelphia Mayor Kenney responded calling it bad policy to turn local cops into agents as police investigations often rely on the cooperation of undocumented residents.
