The New Kensington-Arnold School District agreed to a mediator's judgement and removed a 6-foot high Ten Commandments monument from outside Valley high school gymnasium, paying $164,000 in legal fees to settle a 2012 lawsuit filed by a girl and her atheist mother. Freedom from Religion Foundation applauded the decision saying it should have never gone to court. The girl was not a student but found the object offensive when attending recreational events or when dropping her sister off at school.
