KQV/Trib Total Media Listener Poll Do you feel that by imprisoning Nate Harper it "reinforces to young African-American males the fact that the system is legally rigid, unforgiving and not to be trusted?" <More Info>
On Tuesday, Former Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper unsuccessfully appealed his 18-month federal sentence for using $32,000 in public money and for tax evasion. His new attorney, Milton Raiford, filed a motion with the sentencing judge saying, "to imprison him reinforces to young African-American males the fact that the system is legally rigid, unforgiving and not to be trusted." Raiford says Harper is not a danger to the community, has no prior record, accepted responsibility for his actions and cooperated fully with government officials in the investigation. A federal judge quickly denied the appeal.
