Close to Home
The event, titled Close to Home, is being held on July 23rd, 2013 at Carlow University to raise funds and awareness about the issue of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Hosted by Diana Fletcher, local speaker, author and business owner, the event is one of Hope and Inspiration.
Pa. House Bill 1947 which would have expanded statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse victims failed to come to a final vote as the Senate and House were unable to reach a compromise in Harrisburg. The bill had significant opposition from both the Catholic Conference and the Insurance Federation who argued the legislation would allow victims from decades ago to come forward and file civil suits potentially bankrupting institutions like Diocese of Johnstown-Altoona found guilty by a grand jury abusing hundreds of students over 40 years ago.
