The Federal Communications Commission wants to eliminate its sports blackout rules, which 40 years ago served primarily to prevent NFL games being televised in markets where the home team failed to sell out the stadium, thus protecting their primary source of revenue. Today the primary source of revenue is through broadcast rights and merchandise.
