Internship Program

(college)

On an on-going basis, KQV (AM) provides management level instruction and oversight to an intern from a Pittsburgh and other area college or university, including University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, Point Park University, Washington & Jefferson College, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, Ohio University, and Notre Dame University, West Virginia University, and Clarion University.

--In cooperation with Penn State University, KQV (AM) provided instruction and oversight of a summer long, credited internship (6/1/2015 - 7/31/2015).  The approved 21 year-old junior participated   under the guidance of our news  staff of writers, editors, and reporters to gather, write, edit, and coordinate  news copyand sound for broadcast.

Internship Program

In August 2015, in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, KQV (AM) conducted an intensive, week-long journalism training program for students from Pittsburgh and other high schools. Each day from August 1 through the 8, from 6-10 PM three students were provided with staff advisors (news reporter and editor) and access to the KQV studio to prepare new stories that aired later in the month on KQV(AM)'s weekly news magazine, Pittsburgh Profiles. Each intern conducted interviews in the newsroom and/or in the field, then edited the audio and combined the resulting stories into a 15 minute segment for the Profiles program. Three interns participated from three separate schools:

--16 year old sophomore at Brashear High School in Pittsburgh, PA.

--17 year old senior at Trinity Pawling Boarding School in Pawling, New York..

-- 17 year old senior at Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky.

Information about careers in

Broadcasting to those who might otherwise be unaware of them.

During the summer of 2015, in cooperation with the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation (BGC), KQV(AM) provided instruction and oversight of an intern through the Summer Learn and Earn Program.  Each day between June 29 and August 7, 2015 for approximately twenty-five (25) hours per week, the participant,  under the guidance of our editors and reporters downloading sound, wrote and edited news content for broadcast, and updating daily web news postings.
